Access to Theatre July 31, 2009 Summer Session Project

Since 2003, I have been designing and producing the postcards, posters, and programs for the Access to Theatre (ATT) program. This is the first time we decided to make the postcards and posters with short-run, 4-color printing. The cost was cheaper than the two color printing we've been doing with Kinkos over the years.

ATT offers a diverse group of energetic teens and young adults (ages 13 - 24) of all abilities the opportunity to explore their creativity and themselves through original theatre. The Boston, Massachusetts based non-profit is highly successful and critically acclaimed.

Paon Restaurant & Wine Bar, Carlsbad CA

Another Drupal CMS site; this one with a custom designed theme. This site is initially a landing page with a sign up form. Once the client develops content, a whole back end has already been built. Menu creation, advertising management, and e-commerce all await. The page templates look very much like the current landing page. A fairly simple project with Drupal. (Building the theme was the hardest part.)

Users Recommendations Module for Drupal 6

I developed a Drupal 6 module for a client that allows an administrator, or any user role, to select products from Ubercart to add to a recommendation list. The products can be filtered by taxonomy terms if there are many products to list. These recommendations are unique to each user as the module adds a new tab to the user profile. The recommendations tab also has a text area for an additional, custom message. The module is available here: users_recommend-6.x-1.7.1.tar.gz.

1BankOwnedHome

This is my first Drupal 6 site using a purchased, third-party theme. (The theme still needed a view tweaks and color changes.) Although it's quite simple, the client was excited about the new site's content flexibility. For instance, the side button navigation is tied to Drupal's menu system. The client simply adds in menu items through the admin panel and the buttons are dynamically styled. (No coding!) Of course, the client can also update other content in much the same way.

Voice in the Dark

This new web site uses static XHTML/CSS code that ties in with the Volusion e-commerce solution. The client developed the design and I sliced and optimized the images and built out the site.

To achieve some of the image transparency effects, PNG-24 files were used. Internet Explorer does not support PNG-24 images, so using comment commands and an IE6 specific CSS file, PNG-8 images are swapped for IE6. The IE6 render is nearly identical to other, standards-compliant browsers.

Acartha Technologies Partners

This is a brand new web site built with the CodeIgnitor framework. The site uses some minimal javascript but will not break if javascript is disabled.

The client wanted two-tier, restricted download access to files. These files are only available for download via PHP after login. Files are accessible only to certain member classifications. All Apache access is blocked.

Single Sisterhood

This web site started off as a simple guestbook, but evolved into a full-blown, mySQL driven, user account site with administration pages. Users can register and update their profiles. Once registered, the user can submit a "Frog Tale". The administrator publishes submited Frog Tales from the admin pages. The administrator can also edit and delete user profiles or Frog Tales.

The site uses a banned ip table, a dynamic captcha image, and a registration submission throttle to control comment spam.

Discover Verrado® Spring 2008 Series

I built this landing page with valid XHTML and CSS — and no tables!. The site is backward compatible and tested with Internet Explorer 6.

Verrado® Weekend Getaway

I built this landing page with valid XHTML and CSS — and no tables!. The form validates entries and emails them to the client for follow up. The date pulldowns are created dynamically, and limit selection to the dates of the getaway event. The site is backward compatible and tested with Internet Explorer 6.

Efficient Market Portfolios

This is a cool little podcast subscription backend I put together in PHP. It doesn't require an administration page to manage the podcasts. Instead, using the getID3 library, certain tags are pulled right from the mp3 file the client has tagged in iTunes. The client simply drops the tagged mp3s in a folder on the server. My PHP podcast service reads the folder's contents and generates an XML feed dynamically. The podcast list can be subscribed to as RSS list as well. If the brower supports it, the XML is gussied up with some inline XSLT. You can view the service directly here.

GRN Advantage Marketing

I built this lightweight, compliant XHTML and CSS web site. Although there is Flash content, the site still breaks nicely if javascript and Flash are turned off. The site is backward compatible and tested with Internet Explorer 6.

ProFlowers.com (Provide Commerce)

I created new web site content, maintained existing content, and developed and deployed retention HTML email for different divisions in the marketing department. I worked closely with the creative group, project coordinators, marketing managers, and back-end IT developers to accomplish projects.

Click here to view a PDF (1.4 megs) containing many of the HTML retention emails I developed. These emails have been optimized for deliverability and readabilty on many popular online and offline email clients on multiple platforms.

Provide Commerce has a collection of carefully branded websites, including ProFlowers, each offering high quality, perishable products shipped fresh from the supplier to the consumer.

Kodak EasyShare Automated Mac Testing Lab

Working with a team of three other Macintosh specialists at Kodak's San Diego Systems Development facility, I helped develop and implement an automated testing system for the EasyShare printer line. Automation was implemented using a combination of Applescript, Objective C, BASH, PERL, and a LAMP based intranet management system. I developed the management interface using PHP, Javascript, XHTML, CSS, and mySQL.

Pacifica Companies

Carmel Pointe Admin Page Screen ShotLakeshore Villas Admin Page Screen Shot

Using PHP and mySQL, I developed an administration system for posting building phases, making price lists, and assigning sales agents to display with each of Pacifica Companies' housing web sites. These administration pages can be easily adapted to each unique web page design with CSS style sheets. The administration pages are password protected, of course, but samples can be seen in the screen shot links above.

City Career Fair

I've been developing the content and back-end of this PHP site for about 4-years. Gradually, the site has evolved from a hairball of intermingled PHP and HTML code to a far more efficient page structure. Gone are the java menus that looked great in IE but were offset in other browsers. The content is not queried from a database nor is the architecture compliant with any MVC framework (that's coming), the city event pages are dated and assigned a skyline automatically, simply by naming the file appropriately. The header and footer are included files. And, best of all, the site is strict XHTML 1.1. All the old, complex table layout has been tossed away.

City Career Fair Jobs Component

This is a complete back-end rebuild of the City Career Fair job bank. I had to update the PHP code to work with later versions of PHP. I optimized the code and the mySQL database and added enhanced security features with much improved form validation. I created a standardized paging function for search results. I repaired broken or incomplete functions. I made the site more ADA and Section 508 compatible. I enhanced the banner advertising system to allow for right-side ads (in addition to ads on the top) and to give finer control of ad placement.
